Antique 1870s Copeland China Hand Painted Floral 9.5 Plate Set (8) Gilt Gold

Weight of plates: 8 lbs. These beautiful 9.5 plates each feature different flowers and leaves hand painted in the middle. The outer parts have a ring of light blue and gilt floral and rings on top.

Visually, if in a cabinet or on a wall, I would say that seven of them are beautiful. The exception is the plate with the blue flowers. It looks like whatever color was used for the petals did not adhere to the porcelain, and a lot of it came off from use or washing.

Looking at them closely reveals blemishes from use and age. The gilt on the edges is worn. About half have a minor amount and the other half is about a third worn.

All of the plates show silverware marks from light use, and two have skinny yellow crescent stain lines in the sunken space (between the flowers and gilt). Several plates have one or a few tiny chips to the bottom edge. One plate has a missing chip on the outer edge (shown in photos from top view and in last picture). One plate has a 7/8 chip to the bottom edge that was glued back. Each plate has an old Copeland logo on back, a hand painted red symbol and numbers, and an impressed letter and number.

The dark blue logo dates to the mid-late 1800s, according to my online research. In red on the back of each plate is a symbol, followed by 9516 1/2. Theres also what may be a symbol or a fancy 7 on the inside edge, also in red. The red symbols/numbers are the same on every plate. The impressed letter and number supposedly corresponds to the month and year it was made.

Two are from 1874, two from 1885, and four from 1876. _gsrx_vers_827 GS 7.0.13 (827).
