This listing is for an especially elaborate lace petticoat dating circa 1880, possibly earlier. It is made to be worn with a bustle or possibly even hoops. The petticoat has a single button at the back and also closes with a drawstring. There are approximately 18 of hand made lace decoration and pintuck decoration at the bottom.I believe the length was taken up at some point. There is a gather about 1/3 of the way down from the waist which would have shortened the petticoat by several inches.
This may have been done a couple of times as there are two such gathers. This alteration could easily be removed.I was wondering if the petticoat was originally worn over a hoop skirt and was adjusted in length to be worn with just a bustle. The length in the front is presently approximately 38. Other than that slight alteration in length, the only other issue is a few scattered light stains.
I have not attempted to remove these. There were several antique wedding dresses in the group of clothing from this estate.
