RARE 1850S HAND DONE POLYCHROME CREWELWORK BODICE FOR DRESS. FASHIONED OF A COTTON BASE THAT IS COVERED IN INDIA MUSLIN THAT IS RICHLY HAND EMBROIDERED IN POLYCHROME THREADS IN CREWELWORK. RED PIPING TRIMS THE WIDE SET NECKLINE, ARM SEAMS, FRONT STOMACH PANEL, AND CUFFS. HOOKS CLOSED IN ITS REAR. THE REAR CLOSURE AREA HAS BUILT UP PERIOD MENDS WITH SOME ADDITIONAL SMALL HOLES. A YELLOWED AGE COLOR SEEN TO THE SLEEVES, UNDEARMS HAVE SEEN SIMILAR PERIOD MEND REPAIRS AND THE PIPING ON THE CUFFS HAS FADED. THE INTERIOR HAS SLEEVES FOR BONING BUT THE BONING HAS BEEN REMOVED. Often for proper fit, hang, and wear ability, pieces will need to be altered and/or adding a hook or snap here or there, with a seam closure or strengthening needed. Vintage clothing is most often worn previously, and if old stock, often has slight imperfections from storage, a hint of color or odor.
