1850's Purple Patterned Silk Dress- Hand-sewn, Black lace and velvet trim. There are a total of four pieces: A bodice, a skirt, a waistband and a neck piece (neck piece not shown in photos but is made of the purple silk). This entire two piece gown is hand stitched, the gown is a vibrant purple with a blue pattern as shown, the jacket and skirt are lined. The bodice has a cream muslin and a brown cotton as a lining, over this is a cream silk under the purple n lace, the cream silk is in poor condition but could easily be replaced, the curved sleeve ends are also of the cream silk over cream muslin and the silk there also in poor condition but may be easily replaced, there are metal hooks and eyes on the front of bodice for closure and are on the cream muslin. The bodice is trimmed in lovely black lace and velvet trim. This is a surprisingly wearable size, but because of age would recommend for display. The waistband is 1 wide. The skirt is lined with a brown cotton and has hooks and eyes as well as a snap for closure The hem has a ruffle. This is a chance to own a piece of history from a remarkable time in our countrys history! NOTE: Approximate Measurements are taken lying flat, then doubled for bust/waist/hips/sweep. Shoulders Across Back: 12.5. Sleeve length from top of shoulder to tip: 20 - 22 w curve. Sleeve length from underarm: 16 - 17 w curve. Total length from shoulder to waist: 19 at front tucked in with waist band.

Total length from back of neck to hem: 17. 26 and closes with 3 hooks and eyes. Condition is good antique with the following issues noted. As expected, there is wear to this gown the purple silk itself is pretty good, but there are some areas of fading, ie right top sleeve as well as top back left sleeve and area on lower skirt as shown, as well as a few other places not shown, a few pin holes and a few small tears. As mentioned before, the cream silk under bodice and sleeve ends on top of cream muslin is torn and could easily be replaced.
