Rare European Brooch in Silver set with Lapis Lazuli. Not Stamped and not tested but guaranteed at least 600 sterling. Look from the back how each of the round balls is actually hollow and has 4 edges. The safety clasp is an early one that opens backwards - Around 1890, jewelers begin experimenting with ways to more securely hold the pin in the catch. These hand made efforts are the first so called "safety catches". The 1920's saw the introduction of the "modern safety clasp". This 100 year old pin is not made from a mold. This pin is hand made from smaller pieces of silver - like the balls are each hand made. This brooch is in excellent condition with no damage and nice even patina. It could be easily wired to hang as a pendant.
