This is a stunning and rare find of a lovely 1850s silk evening bodice. It is made of a lovely green silk that has tiny little diamond-shaped patterns. The silk has a beautiful duotone quality where it shifts from green to a teal blue in different lighting, giving it a look that is magical. The bodice has a super wide neckline with tiny little sleeves that set just off the shoulders. The sleeves are adorned with 2 rows of little ruffles.
The bodice has hook and eyes up the back for closure and the front has a center seam and two darts on each side to shape the front. The bodice is boned with 6 in the front seams and two at the side and one in the back. The entire bodice was sewn by hand and is a wonderful insight into Victorian sewing. This bodice is in lovely condition considering it is about 170 years old. Being that old though she does have some issues.
The most noticeable issue is the discoloration in some spots on the bodice. On the back, there are spots where it has discolored to brown vs. On the front where it has faded to a gold-ish color. There is some stress to the front seam and there are a handful of small holes, the largest being pinhead-sized on the brown discolored areas. There is also a large stain on the inside cotton on the right side.
Overall the bodice is still wonderful and looks fantastic displayed. This is a wonderful little piece of history to add to any collection. I have provided measurements for this item but I mostly recommend this bodice for display only. Although this is one of the more sturdy found items in my, as is, collection.
The measurements provided are the max for the garment. Please check the measurements closely for determining fit.I do not give sizes for vintage items as women's sizes are not standardized and a majority of these dresses were homemade or specialty made to fit one person.
