RARE VICTORIAN GOLD BROOCH WITH A PORTRAIT. OF A TYROLEAN VAGABOND BOY.

THIS REMARKABLE FILIGREE GOLD BROOCH. IS WROUGHT FROM 9K ROSE GOLD THE CENTER OF THE BROOCH IS OCCUPIED.

BY MASTERFULLY HAND PAINTED ENAMEL ON PORCELAIN. SUCH PORCELAIN PLAQUES WERE MADE IN 19TH CENTURY AUSTRIA (THEN AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE) AND WERE VERY POPULAR AT THE PERIOD.

THE PORTRAIT IS SITTING ON THE HINGED GOLD PLATE. WHICH CAN BE SWUNG BACK (SEE 2ND PICTURE) THE BROOCH IS ADORNED WITH HALVES OF NATURAL PEARLS.

SET WITH BEAD AND BRIGHT TECHNIQUE THE C CLASP WITH TUBULAR HINGE. IS TYPICAL FOR THE PERIOD THE NEEDLE IS HALLMARKED BC GOLD PURITY IS ACID TESTED 9K WEIGHT IS 3.9 GRAMS THE BROOCH IS 1 1/4" X 13/16" THE PORTRAIT IS 13.5 MM X 9 MM EXCELLENT ANTIQUE CONDITION COMMENSURATE WITH AGE.
