Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver Cairngorm & Amethyst Crown Shield Brooch. Antique Victorian Early Plastic Coral Coloured Jeweled Hand Brooch.

A highly collectible hand brooch from the Victorian era, c1890! The elegant hand is made of early plastic imitating coral with a gold filled mount. The graceful poised hand features an elaborate love heart pierced cuff, and the delicate fingers are holding an old-mine cut paste stone which simulates a dazzling chunky-old diamond! A panel, pin and c-connection make up the back of the brooch. The brooch measures 3.50cm long.

The hand, or hands, have had a long history in antique jewellery, dating back to Roman times through to the Georgian and Victorian era's and beyond. Hand jewellery carries much symbolic significance throughout history, and often a cuff on a hand was an expression of romanticism. Holding a jewel may convey several different meanings such as fidelity, strength or loyalty. A unique piece of antique jewellery, perfect for any collector and would make a fun accent to any outfit!

The condition of the brooch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear the brooch presents in fabulous condition for it's age! The stone is firm in its prong setting, mount is secure, and clasp works well with good tension.
