ANTIQUE VICTORIAN HAND CARVED OAK COLUMN CAPITAL ARCHITECTURAL PILASTER CAP 1880. Here is a " Very Attractive " hand carved early antique 1880's flat back column capital pilaster top cap. This piece is " Extremely Well Detailed " and is hand carved from a solid piece of oak. I salvaged this piece about 30 years ago from one of the many huge mansions rotting away in " Detroit's Historic Brush Park " prior to demolition.

This piece was originally installed as one of the capitals above the interior entrance of the huge double entry front doors. The over all condition is " Exceptional Condition " considering the age and it being rescued and preserved from a rotting mansion. This piece has the well known {Italian Renaissance Corinthian Sansovion Influence & American Victorian} pattern depicting what is clearly acanthus leaves and classic scrolling leaf tips & curly cues. Who ever carved it over 140 years ago took their time and pride which has survived all these years.

Of course it is " Very Attractive " in over all design and detail. This piece still has the original faded satin finish as well as the authentic aged patina. There is some sporadic light surface wear which does not effect the over all integrity of this ornate artifact.

It does have a few " missing chipped pieces " and small cracks, but nothing that will distract from the over all appearance of the piece. It is still very solid and has no major damage or pieces missing, it displays very well. It does have the top right corner edge missing, but to have survived for 140 years that's pretty good. The back side is raw oak and is flat so it is perfect to display on your wall or propped up on a piece of furniture.

This piece is a " Perfect Size " and measures as follows - - 7 - 1/2 inches tall, 7- 3/4 inches wide at the top, and varies in thickness of 1 to 2 inches due to the variations of carving. The raised relief varies between 1/8th to 1/4 th to 3/4's of an inch.

The pictures I took on a cloudy overcast day, to see this piece in person it displays a much better aged patina color, a great accent interior decor artifact. The truest color for this piece would be in Photo # 2. This is just a really nice old hand carved piece of early architecture from one of Detroit's many lost huge mansions that once stood in Historic Brush Park.
