Antique Victorian Scottish St Andrews Cross Sterling Silver Bloodstone Brooch
Offered here is an antique Victorian Scottish St Andrews Cross brooch created using sterling silver and set with bloodstone and jasper. St Andrew was the Patron Saint of Scotland and was executed on a diagonal cross.

This diagonal cross (saltire) is now used on the Scottish flag and is also known as a saltire. The center of the cross holds a thistle, which is the national emblem of Scotland. The sterling silver has beautiful hand chasing and repousse work decorating each surface.

The petite size of this brooch suggests it was worn by a woman whose Highland dress was also based on the clan tartan. She would have worn a tartan earasaid (a long wrap) that would usually be pinned with a brooch, like this one. This sterling silver brooch would have indicated her position in the clan as well as her love of God and country. This brooch has spiritual and historical value. As a collectors piece or heirloom, the brooch connects you to Scotlands history and traditions. The brooch weighs 3.6 grams and measures 7/8" x 7/8". Antique Victorian Sterling silver St Andrews cross plaid brooch set with jasper and bloodstone.
