Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Zeus & Hera Hand Carved Shell Cameo Brooch

Offered here is a superb antique Victorian cameo brooch depicting Zeus and Hera, the king and queen of the gods. The hand-carved cameo is bezel set in a sterling silver mount and encircled by a beaded border that separates the cameo from the frame. The fluted edge sterling silver frame is engraved with a leaf pattern.

Each part of this brooch is beautifully detailed. The cameo is made from a sardonyx shell and was carved by an Italian master carver. The high relief carving of this cameo is crisp and finely detailed.

Zeus is wearing a laurel wreath crown and has his recognizable beard and wavy hair. Hera is depicted wearing her crown or diadem.
