RARE Antique Victorian ETCHED GRAPEVINE DECANTER Art Glass Hand Cut PAINTED RED. An outstanding MUSEUM WORTHY piece. Genuine 1870s-80s most likely Bavaria or Bohemia.
These are incredibly rare, and most are in museums such as the Brooklyn Museum or Australian Royal Exhibition building. This particular decanter, because of its irregular and very handmade unique shape, is at the EARLY end of the timeline for when these were made. Possibly as early as the 1860s. Hand applied ruby red enameled paint with vertical lines and arches.
Paint is fired right onto the glass and is extremely stable/glossy. Covered with a stunning design of hand copper-wheel etched grapes, leaves, and vines. Hand blown glass shows irregularities such as small bubbles, pontil mark on base, and a slightly ridged and asymmetrical lip at top. Excellent antique condition, NO nicks chips scratches or damage to glass decanter other than a few small areas where the hand applied ruby red paint has rubbed off which read as clear spots- super minor.
See all pics and use zoom. 11.75" Tall, Base 3 1/8"Across. Neck is approx 1.75 across not perfectly round, irregular due to hand blowing process. Opening of decanter is approx. This is a gorgeous decanter, such a charming piece, almost impossible to locate.
Traditionally this would be used for wine and is still perfectly usable! Great for a collector, would look fantastic in a barware setting and is perfect for use.
