An extremely rare and beautiful French solid sterling silver and hand painted table snuff box. It is hallmarked for with the Minerva Head mark and a makers mark - I would date it to c1880.

It has been beautifully designed being oval in form with a hand painted miniature to its lid. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits chips cracks and repairs, it was once gilded but this is all but gone. The painting looks fine although there is a greyish area around the figures I do not know if this is how it was done or if it has been touched up at some point. It measures 3 inches (7.8cms) long by 2 inches (5.2cms) wide by 0.75 inches tall and weighs 72 grams.
