Tiger's Eye Locket Man In The Moon Sun Apollo Victorian Rare Hand Carved

This is a rare and wonderful antique Belle Epoque, Victorian locket pendant with a beautiful hand carved Tiger's Eye gem with a fabulous image of a man in the moon with the sun or star. This may be the god Apollo as well. The radiant shimmering Tiger's Eye is just gorgeous and the carving with the flowing hair of the figure creating the moon is absolutely exquisite. It is very rare to find carved Tiger's Eye gems and the image of the man or god in the moon is just a treasure to behold. The locket is Gold Filled.

The locket opens to reveal compartments for two photos. The reverse is engraved with a leaf in the center with a star or sun motif surrounding the leaf. The locket has wonderful Etruscan inspired adornments at the top. The dramatic locket dances delightfully around the neck and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations.

The locket dates to circa 1850 - 1890. The locket pendant is 1 1/2 inches (39 mm) long including the bales. The locket portion for photos or treasures is 22mm in diameter.
