A fascinating and rare pair of antique Irish gilt metal drop earrings, set with some of the most amazing hand carved bog oak designs! In full 3d, the Celtic crosses are so finely depicted - with minute detail and perfect reproduction of the ancient straight and curved woven decorations. Theyre overlain by carved interlocking rounded designs with beaded decoration that create some real contrast and shadows that play as the light moves across them. With twisted cable surrounds, they have multiple gilt drops and their tops are set with further carved bog oak depicting shamrocks in 3d.

They are fitted with screw-on ear wires for pierced or non-pierced ears. Superb quality, incredibly wearable and a must have as part of an historic Celtic collection! They date from around 1870/80 and are in very good, fully wearable condition throughout, with no loss or damage but appear to have had their ear wires replaced at some point in the distant past.
