This is an exceptional Victorian, Romantic Period pendant, circa 1850s. It is crafted from 18K yellow gold. The center plaque is porcelain. It is hand-painted with vibrant colors. The portrait features three cherubs, two resting and one raising a bouquet of a colorful floral wreath.
They are all winged little angels (putti or cherub). The enameled porcelain is in excellent condition with no chipping or cracks noted.
It is in a gold bezel frame that is further surrounded by split natural pearls in silver. The balance of the pendant is in 18K yellow gold. Just the rim of pearls is set in silver. The bail also features split pearls graduating in size.
The bail is solid 18K yellow gold, not silver. The back is exposed enameld porcelain. This piece is hallmarked on the jump ring indicating that it is an import to France in 18K (owl) and silver (swan). These two hallmarks were used from 1893 onward to the 1980s. However, this piece was crafted in the mid-1800s and import hallmarks were place upon importation post-1893.
The condition of this pendant is fabulous with minimal wear. Length Inclusive of bail: 43 mm. Of course I honor this policy.
